Sister Act

I was enthused, enthralled and excited to be asked recently to attend the press night of the UK touring production of Sister Act at the Princess Theatre Torquay.  Being one of my favourite feel good musicals, I was pleased to accept the kind invitation and was rewarded with a stand out evening of top class musical theatre entertainment.

The cast, headed by Wendi Peters as Mother Superior and Landi Oshinowo as Deloris Van Cartier were quite simply phenomenal from start to finish. Landi Oshinowo as Deloris is quite superb, executing a terrific vocal range with brilliant comic timing in the lead role and Wendi Peters as the stern matriarchal Mother Superior delivers a stand alone performance, with her rendition of ‘I Haven’t Got a Prayer’ being a real show stopper.

One of my favourite performances of the evening was given by Alfie Parker as the rather camp police sergeant Eddie Souther.  He lit up the stage with every entrance, as did Julie Stark as grouchy Sister Mary Lazarus and Isabel Canning with her whimsical portrayal of Sister Mary Patrick. Eloise Runnette as timid Sister Mary Robert shows off her extensive vocal range with aplomb, whilst Ian Gareth-Jones is a convincing Villain as Curtis Jackson, with Phillip Arran as the gangster rapping Monsignor O’Hara being a hoot.

The amazing costumes, combined with a dazzling lighting plot and a sensational band, under the Musical Direction of Tom Slade, make this a must see show for all the family to enjoy and come away from feeling more than a tad uplifted.  I’m sure I’m not the first, and know I won’t be the last to say this was FABULOUS BABY!  I give it a divine 5 stars!

This show was reviewed on the 27th August 2024 at the Princess Theatre, Torquay where it runs until the 31st August 2024.  Tickets available here: Sister Act Tickets | Princess Theatre, Torquay in Torquay | ATG Tickets
